Righteousness in Christ

This blog post assumes that you already have a relationship with God through Jesus, by the Holy Spirit. If you aren’t sure what having a relationship with Him means, check out this blog post: What is the Gospel?

So, you’re saved, but you still feel inadequate? Or, you read the Bible, and it says that you’re the righteousness of God that’s in Christ, but you don’t see it clearly? Why is that?

A good way to look at righteousness is this, everything is as it should be. We were made to have relationship with God. When we give our lives to Jesus, we become right with God. It’s as it should be! Does that mean it’s impossible to sin? No, but that is no longer your goal. You can tell that you’ve been made right with God, if you sin and feel bad about it.

“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭2:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

They key operating word here is “if” anyone sins, not “when“.

Often the devil will play on your pure heart and make you feel like you have to do more to earn righteousness. The more work that’s involved, the more the enemy is involved. The truth is way simpler than that. You have been made right with God! Rest. Rest in Him. The more time you take resting in Him, the less you will be worried about measuring up.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah‬ ‭26:3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It’s not just that God sees you as righteous. It’s that you have been made the righteousness of God that’s in Christ Jesus. You see, we try to separate ideas and people here in the western world. The Bible doesn’t do that. You see, righteousness is a person. Just like healing isn’t healing without Jesus. Salvation isn’t salvation without Jesus.

Ok, I’m getting excited now.

You see, this whole thing is based on Jesus.

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” ‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭5:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

You have to see yourself one with Him. If we separate righteousness from the person of Jesus, no wonder we don’t see it sometimes. If you can see yourself one with Jesus, you’ll believe your own righteousness.

““I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” ‭‭John‬ ‭17:20-23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

So what am I getting at? Go spend time with Him. Get to know His heart. When you’re one with God, so many questions will go out the window. Does this mean your questions aren’t important? No, they’re very important. However, they are answered in relationship with Jesus.

I hope this blessed you. Thanks for reading!

Be blessed in Jesus name!
