The Kingdom coming in Power

“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭4:20‬

So what is the goal of the Christian life? Going to church? Trying to convince people to pray our prayer so they can “go to heaven”? No, I would venture to say that it has little to do with simply “going to heaven”.

The goal is actually to get heaven to come to earth, and whenever that happens, people will be saved. It is in fact a by product of the kingdom of God coming in power.

How then does that happen?

When you want to use water, you can’t just turn it on, you have to attach a hose to it. The same works with the kingdom of God. The kingdom is there, and we’re here. So…. how do we get it here? Faith. Faith is the hose.

Where do we attach our faith? Well, we attach our faith in God and our identity in Him. Ephesians 2:6 says that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places.

So if that is where we are seated, that means that we live there with Jesus. We must set our affections in our real home. Jesus actually says that the Kingdom of God is “within you.” This would explain why laying on hands releases the kingdom on people. I recently prayed for a family friend who had a weak immune system. I’m waiting to hear back from them, but as I prayed for her, she said she felt her body get warm. This is a common sign of the touch of God. All I did was grab her right hand and pray for her. The Kingdom was preached, and released. I explained to them with the word, and am expecting fruit.

What’s the goal?

The goal is that Jesus would receive the fruit of His suffering. That the Father would have His children. That King Jesus would reign over every nation, every heart, and all problems would be subdued under the mighty hand of God.

There are so many unsolvable problems in this world. The rest of society has no idea what to do with things like mental diseases, with evil, with violence, with strange sicknesses. It’s all treated and the symptoms are dealt with, but the issue is, no one is ever free! They become trapped in their mess. Stuck in sin, sick in their bodies and in their souls. Dying with no answer. This is the enemy’s work. The kingdom of darkness is having its way, and the church sits back and decides to be a referral system.

I refuse. Jesus came and announced that the kingdom of God was at hand. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38

So how could Jesus say “the Kingdom of God is at hand?” Well you see, He was in the line of king David, and was anointed by God. Christ means “anointed one”. So Jesus the anointed one, came to anounce the Kingdom, and He was lifted up as King on the cross. He defeated death and rose again, showing His power over it. Now King Jesus is seated on His throne in heaven. He handed us the keys, with His authority.

We can have full confidence that our King is Lord over every disease, every sickness, and every demon.

With this confidence, we can crush the world of darkness. “…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (First part omitted for emphasis) ‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:8‬

In the same way that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, He sent us to do that very thing. When the Kingdom of God comes in power, it forces the enemy to retreat. Simply proclaiming the gospel is not enough. The powers of darkness have a foothold over people’s lives. We must be on the offensive, not defensive.

So where do we find this power? It’s in love. Love is God’s great weapon. It will change an entire generation from darkness to light. When you tap into God’s heart of love for a person, you have all of heaven with you. This was Jesus’s motivation, and it must be ours.

Avoiding passivity

Waiting around will do nothing. God is actively pursuing people, so must we. If you don’t know how to get that desire, ask God for it. I often ask Him for more hunger. I want to want more. He honors prayers like that. We can only do what the Father is doing.

Be blessed!
